Introduction

As a follow-up to our recent partner sessions, we’re excited to share updates on the Unified Extensibility Platform (UXP) for Premiere Pro. API development has come a long way since we released it in Premiere Pro Beta, and we are steadily moving toward general availability (GA). This document highlights aspects of the UXP roadmap that we can share, key feedback themes we’ve heard from you, and resources to make your migration journey as smooth as possible.

UXP Status and Roadmap in Premiere Pro

Over the past few months, you have communicated your preference for an expedited release of UXP to begin migrating clients to your UXP plugins. In response, we are targeting the inclusion of UXP 1.0 GA in a Premiere Pro 25.x release this year. For those concerned about the CEP timeline, please be assured that support for CEP will continue for at least one more major release cycle, ensuring that your existing CEP panels remain functional while UXP matures – major release cycles typically align with the annual Adobe MAX conference. Please note that these timelines are targets, not commitments, and may shift as we strive to deliver a stable and high-quality UXP release.

Partner Feedback and Ongoing Improvements

Your input from the partner sessions has been incredibly valuable in shaping UXP’s development. Here are some of the key themes we’ve heard from you (and are actively working on):

  • UI Component Availability: Growing UXP’s library of native components (Spectrum) to help you rebuild complex panels without losing UI functionality.
  • Hybrid Plugin Support: Supporting custom C++ functionality within a UXP plugin, which we are now planning on including in our UXP 1.0 release.
  • Large File Handling: Fixing how UXP handles large assets, like the file-size limitation (around 4GB) that’s already been resolved based on your feedback.
  • Documentation Quality: Refining and expanding our documentation to include clearer guidance and more examples, so navigating the new APIs is easier for everyone.
  • API Coverage: Closing gaps in UXP’s API to ensure it supports the features you’ve relied on with CEP/ExtendScript integrations.

We’re thrilled that your testing and feedback have already led to tangible improvements. For instance, the fix for the 4GB file issue is now part of UXP in Premiere Pro Beta. Please keep sharing your thoughts – your insights directly influence our priorities and make UXP better for everyone.

Resources to Support Your UXP Migration

We want to make sure you have everything you need to get started with UXP. Here are some of the resources we’ve put together for you:

  • Sample UXP Panels: These examples can help you get a sense of common workflows. For instance, our Metadata Handler sample panel shows how to handle and display clip metadata using Spectrum UI components, and our OAuth Panel sample walks you through an OAuth login flow via a local server.
  • UXP Documentation: API documentation is available on our developer website. You’ll also find a UXP Developer Tool (UDT) to load and debug your UXP plugins in Premiere Pro Beta. We’re aiming to improve the documentation based on feedback, so it includes more examples and code snippets.
  • Community Forums and Guides: Our Creative Cloud Developer Forums are a great place to ask questions, share findings, and connect with other developers and members of our team. We also continually update the forums when there are new APIs made available in UXP in Premiere Pro Beta.

Staying Engaged and Next Steps

We encourage you to dive into UXP in the Premiere Pro Beta as early as possible. The sooner you start experimenting, the more your feedback can shape the final version of UXP 1.0. If you run into issues or have specific requests, please post them on the forums – we’re actively monitoring them and ready to help.

We’re here to support you every step of the way. Join us on the forums, explore the sample projects, and try converting one of your CEP panels to UXP to get a feel for the new framework. You are always welcome to contact us directly, and we will be delighted to assist you in the manner that best suits your needs.

Conclusion

Thank you for your continued partnership and innovation! We’re excited to see what you create with UXP, and we’re looking forward to building the future of Premiere Pro extensibility with you.
